Hiring a chauffeur in Dubai and the UAE: the complete guide

Hiring a chauffeur in Dubai means booking a licensed company that supplies the car and a professional driver together, for one route or a block of hours. The RTA licenses this work in Dubai. Assure is RTA licensed, runs sedans, SUVs, vans and Sprinters, and quotes every trip on WhatsApp at +971 56 684 8148, 24/7.

You land at Terminal 3 with two suitcases and a meeting in DIFC at 11:00. Or you live in Arabian Ranches and need a car for a wedding in Abu Dhabi. Both are chauffeur bookings, and both start with the same questions: which car, priced how, and from whom.

This guide answers them in the order people ask. Each section links to a deeper guide or to the service page where you can get a quote.

What is a chauffeur service in Dubai?

A chauffeur service is a car and a professional driver hired together. The driver collects you, follows your route, waits outside each stop and loads the bags. The keys stay with the driver, so your own driving licence never comes into it.

In Dubai the RTA licenses this work under an activity called Passenger Transport by Luxury Motor Vehicles. Its legal basis is Executive Council Resolution No. 6 of 2016 and Executive Regulations No. 516 of 2022. A metered taxi is a different licence with a different tariff.

Locally, these cars are usually called limousines, whatever their shape. Abu Dhabi Mobility, for example, publishes its approved list under the heading limousine vehicles. So in everyday UAE usage, a Lexus ES 300h with a driver is a limousine, as much as a stretch car is.

Chauffeur, limousine, car with driver or private driver: which do you need?

The four terms overlap, and most companies use them loosely. This table sorts them by the trip each one usually means.

You want What the trade calls it Where to book it
A car for a meeting day, a roadshow or a guest landing at DXB Chauffeur service Chauffeur service in Dubai
A first class or exotic car for a night out, a gala or a wedding Limousine service Limousine hire for occasions
A block of hours for sightseeing or shopping Car with driver Car with driver by the hour or day
One driver following your own plan across several days Private driver Private driver in Dubai

The car is the same in all four. What changes is how long you keep it and how the trip is priced.

How is a chauffeur priced: by the hour or by the route?

There are two ways to buy a chauffeur in Dubai.

  • A transfer is one fixed route, such as DXB to a hotel in Business Bay. It is priced for that run, with a stated amount of free waiting.
  • Hourly hire is a block of time with a minimum number of hours. The car stays with you for the whole block, and waiting is part of what you pay for.

A rough rule: one leg with no stops is a transfer, and three or more stops in a day is hourly hire. The full reasoning, with sample days in DIFC, at Dubai Mall and in Abu Dhabi, is in our guide to choosing hourly hire or a fixed transfer.

On top of the base, the quote moves with distance, the emirates crossed, the date, waiting time, tolls and parking. RTA’s permit conditions say the tariff for luxury transport must be higher than the taxi tariff. So a chauffeur will always cost more than a taxi over the same distance.

Abu Dhabi tolls are a common surprise. The Darb system bills AED 4 a crossing in two peak windows, 7 am to 9 am and 3 pm to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. Since 4 May 2026, two newer gates have charged around the clock: Ghantoot, and Al Qurm on Wahat Al Karama Street. Each factor is explained line by line in what a chauffeur costs in Dubai.

Which car class fits your trip and your luggage?

Seats in this table count passengers only. A large bag here means a checked suitcase, counted with all seats taken, and cabin bags are listed separately. The counts match the ones on our fleet pages.

Class Assure fleet models Passengers Large bags Cabin bags
Business sedan Lexus ES 300h 3 2 1
First class sedan Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series 3 2 2
Luxury SUV GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade 6 3 2
Large van Mercedes-Benz V-Class 6 4 2
People carrier Kia Carnival, Citroen SpaceTourer 6 3 2
People carrier Hyundai Staria 6 2 2
Minibus Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, 13 seats 13 6 6
Minibus Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, 19 seats 19 3 6

Every row above is an Assure fleet car, and the Lexus ES 300h is a petrol-electric hybrid.

Rolls-Royce Ghost, Phantom and Cullinan, Bentley Flying Spur and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are available through our partner network, subject to availability. So are 35-seat and 50-seat coaches for conferences and wedding guests.

Luggage decides the car more often than headcount. Three adults with four large cases do not fit a sedan, which takes 2. The V-Class takes all four and still has 3 spare seats. A family of six flying home with six cases needs either two cars or the 13-seat Sprinter.

Children change the plan too. The traffic law’s executive regulations, as RTA and Dubai Police set out in 2022, require a seat for every child under 4. Any child aged 10 or under, or below 145 cm, rides in the back. Give each child’s age when you book, so the right seat is fitted before the car arrives. Every model, with photos and bag space, is listed in our fleet.

How do you know a chauffeur company is licensed?

In Dubai, the activity permit comes from RTA’s Public Transport Agency, on top of a commercial licence from the Department of Economy and Tourism or a free zone. The permit conditions ask a luxury transport company for several things.

  • a cash or bank guarantee in RTA’s favour
  • a headquarters equipped to manage and operate the cars
  • a tariff higher than the taxi tariff, at the rate RTA sets
  • links from its booking apps and systems to RTA’s electronic platform
  • only the vehicle categories and numbers RTA approves

For journeys into other emirates, the same card brings in a federal body, the Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport. Other emirates regulate their own limousines. In Ras Al Khaimah, Resolution No. 3 of 2021 gives that job to RAKTA. Abu Dhabi Mobility keeps its own list of approved limousine operators.

You cannot see a licence through a car window, so check the booking instead. A licensed company quotes in writing, under its own name, and tells you which car and driver are coming. Turn down anyone who offers you a ride in the DXB arrivals hall without a booking. Pre-booked cars at DXB wait in the terminal car parks, since the airport has no pick-up area at Arrivals.

Assure holds an RTA licence, has 10+ years in business and works from the Al Nisf Building on Airport Road in Al Garhoud. What the licence means for you as a passenger, and what it does not cover, is set out in our RTA limousine licence explainer.

Chauffeur, taxi, Uber or self-drive: when does each one make sense?

Each option wins in a different situation, and price is only one factor.

Option Where it wins What to know first
Metered taxi Short hops in the city, any time At DXB, taxis collect from a designated pick-up area at Arrivals, and the meter runs on RTA’s taxi tariff
Ride-hailing app A quick ride when you have mobile data The app shows the fare and assigns a car when you request the ride
Self-drive rental A long stay with plenty of driving Some visitors may drive on their national licence under the Markhoos initiative. You handle tolls, parking and navigation.
Chauffeur Airport arrivals, meetings, groups, occasions The car, the driver and the price are agreed before the trip, and the driver waits for you

The chauffeur column is the only one where someone meets you inside the terminal with your name. It is also the only one where the same car waits outside a two-hour meeting.

Be honest about short hops. DIFC to Dubai World Trade Centre is about 3 km by road, a few minutes in the car. A taxi or an app ride is the sensible choice for a trip like that, unless a chauffeur is already with you on an hourly booking.

A chauffeur earns its price where waiting, luggage or a fixed time matters. Think of an arrival after a night flight, a guest who must not be kept standing at the kerb, or a family of six with six large cases. That family fits one 13-seat Sprinter, where a taxi rank would mean two or three cars.

Airport pickups: how does a chauffeur meet you?

Whichever UAE airport you land at, your Assure chauffeur stands in the arrivals hall with your name on a board. VIP guests are welcomed personally. From there, you walk together to the car while the chauffeur takes the bags.

At Dubai International, your airline sets the terminal. Emirates is the main user of Terminal 3, alongside flydubai, United and Air Canada. Terminal 2 is the home of flydubai, and Terminal 1’s D gates serve many other international carriers. Dubai Airports also runs DXB Greet and Go at Terminal 3, a QR-code meeting point for registered limousine providers, hotels and tour operators.

The quote sets how long the chauffeur waits for free after you land. Share the flight number, so the pickup moves with the actual landing time. From DXB, Downtown Dubai is about 18 km by road and Dubai Marina about 37 km, measured on OSRM without traffic. Every airport, from DWC to Fujairah, has its own page under airport transfers in the UAE.

Business trips, families and solo travellers: what changes?

Business trips. The main business districts are DIFC, Dubai World Trade Centre, Business Bay, Dubai Internet City and Jebel Ali Free Zone. Without traffic, JBR to DIFC is about 24 km and 22 minutes on Sheikh Zayed Road. JBR to Jebel Ali Free Zone is about 13 km. Firms with regular trips can open an account billed monthly through our corporate chauffeur service.

Families. Count bags and child seats before you count seats. A family of five with a buggy fits the V-Class better than an SUV, because the V-Class takes 4 large cases with every seat in use. If you bring your own child seat, say so, because it takes up a seat place.

Solo travellers. Ask for the driver’s name and the car’s plate number before pickup, and match both at the kerb. Share your live location in the WhatsApp chat if the pickup point is hard to describe. Keep the confirmation open on your phone until you are in the car.

When should you book, and how far ahead?

For an airport pickup, book as soon as your flight is fixed, then send any change of flight number to the same chat. Same-day requests are possible because Assure answers WhatsApp 24/7, as long as a suitable car is free at that hour.

A few dates fill the roads and the fleets at once, so book those weeks early.

  • New Year’s Eve. For the night of 31 December 2025, Dubai’s Event Security Committee planned road closures around the event areas from 4 pm, widening until 11 pm. Sheikh Zayed Road, Burj Khalifa Street and the Financial Centre roads were on the list. The same plan counted more than 18,000 limousine and luxury transport vehicles on duty. Expect your drop-off point to sit outside the closures.
  • The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Formula 1 race weekend runs from 4 to 6 December 2026 at Yas Marina Circuit, about 114 km from Downtown Dubai.
  • GITEX Global. It follows straight after, from 7 to 11 December 2026. The Summit day is at Dubai World Trade Centre, then the Expo moves to Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City, about 39 km from Downtown.

Weddings book furthest ahead of all, because the bride’s car, the couple’s exit and the guest shuttles must all be free on one evening. A Rolls-Royce or Bentley for the couple is available through our partner network, subject to availability, so the quote names the car for your date.

Monthly and personal drivers for UAE residents

Residents book drivers differently from visitors. The common patterns are a driver for several days during a family visit, school and office runs, or a full month of cover.

A private driver who follows your schedule suits a run of days with a changing plan. Longer arrangements are quoted as a monthly booking. RTA’s Takamul permit, announced in March 2025, covers longer hires too. Under that permit, chauffeur-driven luxury cars can be hired for up to one month, where the rental company and the transport company share a member on their commercial licences.

Driver hours have a legal ceiling. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, a normal working week is 48 hours, or 8 a day, and overtime may not pass 2 hours in a day. A family that needs a car from 06:30 school drop-off to a 21:00 dinner is planning a day of more than 14 hours. That needs two drivers, or two shifts.

Going beyond Dubai: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates

A trip that starts in Dubai can end anywhere in the seven emirates. Distances below run from Downtown Dubai to each city centre, on OSRM without traffic.

Destination Road distance Without traffic Toll to plan for
Sharjah about 26 km 27 min Salik, depending on the route through Dubai
Ras Al Khaimah about 109 km 1 h 19 min Salik, depending on the route through Dubai
Yas Island about 114 km 1 h 13 min Darb, including the 24-hour Ghantoot gate
Abu Dhabi city about 139 km 1 h 28 min Darb, including the 24-hour Ghantoot gate
Al Ain about 136 km 1 h 31 min Depends on the route

Day trips are booked by the hour: one car and one driver go there and back. One-way runs between cities are fixed-route trips on intercity transfers.

A job that begins and ends in, say, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi is governed by that emirate’s transport rules, not Dubai’s. Assure arranges such jobs on request through a partner that holds a licence in that emirate, and says so in the quote. Trips into Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain are quoted route by route, with the border and permit position confirmed before you book.

How do you book on WhatsApp, and what happens next?

  1. Send one message with the date, pickup time and pickup address.
  2. Add where you are going, or how many hours to keep the car.
  3. Give the number of passengers, large bags and child seats.
  4. Say which car class you want, or ask for a suggestion.
  5. Read the written quote: car class, price, what it covers, and the waiting and cancellation terms.
  6. Accept it in the same chat. That written acceptance is the booking.
  7. Before pickup, the chauffeur’s details and the meeting point arrive in the chat.

A message with all of this in it gets a quote faster than one that says only “need a car tomorrow”. What to write, how to describe a hotel entrance, and what never to send over chat are covered in our guide to booking a chauffeur on WhatsApp.

Assure’s WhatsApp is +971 56 684 8148, answered 24/7, including for same-day trips when a suitable car is free.

Questions and answers

Can you hire a driver to drive you around Dubai?

Yes. Hire the car and driver for a block of hours, a half day or a full day, and they stay with you from stop to stop. A typical plan is a meeting in DIFC, lunch in Jumeirah and an afternoon at Dubai Mall. You set the order and can change it during the day. For a single run, such as DXB to a hotel, a fixed transfer is usually the better buy.

What is a chauffeur service?

It is one booking that covers both a car and a professional driver. In Dubai the RTA licenses it as passenger transport by luxury motor vehicles, separate from metered taxis. You do not drive, so no UAE licence is needed. From pickup to drop-off, the driver handles the road, the waiting and the bags.

Can I rent a car with a driver in Dubai?

Yes. Licensed chauffeur companies hire out the car and the driver together, by route or by time. RTA also runs a Takamul permit, announced in March 2025. It lets a rental firm and a luxury transport company with a shared licence member offer a chauffeur-driven luxury car to tourists and residents for up to a month.

How do I book a chauffeur service in Dubai?

Send the date, pickup time, pickup address, passengers and bags, plus either the drop-off or the hours you need. With Assure that goes to WhatsApp at +971 56 684 8148, and a written quote comes back in the same chat. Your written acceptance of that quote is the booking, and the chauffeur's details follow before pickup.

How much does it cost to hire a chauffeur in Dubai?

There is no single rate. The car class and the choice between an hourly block and a fixed route set the base, then distance, waiting, tolls, parking and the date move it. RTA requires the luxury transport tariff in Dubai to sit above the taxi tariff. Assure does not publish a rate card and quotes each trip on WhatsApp.

Is a limousine the same as a chauffeur in Dubai?

Mostly, yes. In the UAE, limousine is the everyday name for a pre-booked luxury car with a driver, and it covers a Lexus ES 300h sedan as much as a stretch car. Abu Dhabi Mobility, for example, publishes its approved lists under the heading limousine vehicles. Stretch limousines are one small class within that.

Can a chauffeur from Dubai take me to Abu Dhabi?

Yes. A trip that starts in Dubai can end anywhere in the UAE. Downtown Dubai to central Abu Dhabi runs about 139 km, close to 90 minutes on clear roads. Expect Darb tolls on the way in: the Ghantoot gate has billed AED 4 for every crossing, at any hour, since 4 May 2026. Ask whether tolls are in your quote.
