Luxury car with a chauffeur or self-drive rental in Dubai: deposits, Salik, fines and insurance compared

Renting an exotic car in Dubai means a valid licence, a card deposit, and your name on every Salik toll and traffic fine. A chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Urus through Assure removes all four. The driver parks, waits and handles valet. A two-seat supercar has one passenger seat once a driver is aboard, so it stays self-drive.

The short answer: when a chauffeur makes more sense

Choose the chauffeur when the car is part of the occasion, not the point of the trip. A wedding arrival, a dinner at DIFC, a birthday on the Palm or a flight landing at DXB all end with you stepping out at a door. Self-drive makes sense only if driving the car is what you came for.

Search results for Dubai exotics are mostly self-drive firms. Assure does not rent cars for self-drive. We book the same kind of car with a chauffeur through our partner network, subject to availability. Browse the class on our ultra-luxury and exotic fleet page.

Licence rules for visitors: home licence or international permit

The UAE Ministry of Economy says GCC visitors may drive on their home licence. So may holders of licences from a list of countries that includes Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain, the UK and the US. Every other nationality needs an international driving licence.

Then the rental company adds its own rules. Avis UAE sets a minimum age of 21. Confirm your licence and age with the company before you fly. Our guide to driving in Dubai as a tourist goes through the permit side.

In a chauffeur car, none of this applies. Your age and licence do not matter, which helps when part of the group is under 21.

Deposits, insurance excess and damage claims

Public rental terms show how the money works. Avis UAE holds the rental price plus AED 3,000 to AED 5,000 on a credit card in the renter’s name and refuses debit and prepaid cards. That is a standard car.

Assure has not confirmed typical exotic-car deposits from three or more public listings, so this page quotes no figure for them. Before you pay, ask any exotic rental for these in writing.

  • the deposit and when it is released
  • the insurance excess if the car is damaged
  • what is covered if a kerb scrapes a wheel
  • the mileage limit per day

With a chauffeur there is no deposit and no excess for you to carry. Assure confirms the car, the hours and the pickup in writing before the booking is final.

Salik tolls, parking and speed-camera fines

A self-drive renter is billed for every Salik gate. Rates are AED 6 at peak and AED 4 off-peak, free from 1 am to 6 am, plus 5% VAT from 1 June 2026. Avis adds an AED 2 admin fee on top of each crossing. The Sheikh Zayed Road corridor between Downtown and Dubai Marina crosses several gates. See our Salik guide for the gates.

Parking is the second cost. Dubai’s peak tariff runs 8 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm, and multi-storey car parks charge AED 5 an hour.

Fines follow the registered renter. Avis adds a AED 50 handling fee to each one. This page does not list speeding fines: the schedule changes, and we have not confirmed the current figures. Check them with the Dubai Police before you drive a fast car.

In a chauffeur booking, the driver pays and plans for gates and parking. Salik is a line in the quote or is included.

Which exotics can be chauffeur-driven?

A chauffeur needs the driver’s seat and at least one rear seat for you. That decides the list.

Car With a chauffeur? Why
Rolls-Royce Cullinan Yes Rear lounge or individual seats, 560 L boot
Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom Yes Built for the rear seat
Bentley Flying Spur Yes 346 L boot, 3 in the rear
Lamborghini Urus Yes, if a partner supplies it Listed for weddings, events and photo shoots
Two-seat supercar Not listed One passenger seat once a driver is aboard

All of them are partner cars, available through our partner network, subject to availability. The Urus needs a partner to confirm a chauffeur for your date, so ask early. For the trade-offs between the SUVs, read G-Class versus Range Rover with a chauffeur.

Photos and arrivals: the chauffeur waits while you shoot

A self-drive exotic leaves you with two jobs: the car and the shoot. With a chauffeur, you step out, the car waits, and the next stop is planned in advance. Plan each photo stop with us beforehand. Some roads and car parks have their own rules.

For weddings, birthdays and proposals, see our guide to luxury cars for proposals, birthdays and anniversaries. To choose between the three Rolls-Royce models, read Phantom versus Ghost versus Cullinan.

What you pay for in each option

Self-drive exotic Chauffeur-driven
Licence Accepted licence, rental age None needed
Deposit Card hold, set by the company None
Salik and parking Billed to the renter Handled by the driver
Fines Renter, plus handling fee Not your concern

Chauffeur prices are quoted on WhatsApp, because they depend on the car, the hours, the route and the date. Our limousine service and car with driver pages set out how bookings work. For an everyday car rather than an exotic, read rent a car or hire a chauffeur in Dubai. Send your date and plan to +971 56 684 8148 and we check which partner car is free.

Questions and answers

Can I rent a Rolls-Royce with a driver in Dubai?

Yes. Assure books the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Phantom and Cullinan with a chauffeur only, through our partner network, subject to availability. You ride in the rear, and nobody in your group needs a UAE licence or a deposit. Send the date, pickup and hours on WhatsApp and we confirm a partner car before you commit.

Can I rent a Lamborghini with a driver in Dubai?

The Urus, yes, if a partner can supply it with a chauffeur on your date. Assure lists it for weddings, events and photo shoots, not airport pickups. Two-seat Lamborghinis have one passenger seat once a driver is aboard, so they are not on our chauffeur list. Ask early and name a second choice.

Can a tourist drive an exotic car in Dubai?

Only with a licence the UAE accepts. The Ministry of Economy says GCC visitors and holders of licences from listed countries, including the UK, US and Germany, may drive on the home licence. Every other nationality needs an international driving licence. The rental company then applies its own age and licence-history rules.

Who pays Salik and fines on a rented exotic?

The renter. Avis UAE, for example, bills each toll at the actual toll plus an AED 2 admin fee and VAT, and adds a AED 50 handling fee to every traffic fine. Charges can reach your card after you have flown home. Other companies set their own fees, so read the agreement.

What deposit does a supercar rental need?

It varies by company, and Assure has not confirmed typical exotic-car deposits from public listings, so it quotes no figure. For a standard rental, Avis UAE holds the rental price plus AED 3,000 to AED 5,000 on a credit card in the renter's name. Ask any exotic rental for the deposit and insurance excess in writing.

Is a chauffeur worth it for a day or an evening?

It is when you want to arrive at the door, drink at dinner or take photos without parking. Visit Dubai states a zero-tolerance policy on drink-driving. A chauffeur drops you at the entrance, waits nearby and brings the car round, so the evening is not planned around a car park.
