Where should you stay near Dubai Airport?
It depends on whether you will pass through passport control. Transit passengers who stay airside have one set of options. Everyone who enters the UAE has another, and the second list is longer and cheaper.
| Your plan | Stay |
|---|---|
| Not entering the UAE, long wait | Airside at Terminal 3 or Terminal 1 |
| Entering the UAE, early flight | Al Garhoud, Port Saeed, Dubai Festival City or Al Qusais |
| A night in the city, flight next day | Deira or Al Garhoud |
| Flying from Al Maktoum | Dubai South or the Marina side |
Inside the terminal: airside hotels for transit passengers
Dubai International Hotel is airside at Terminal 3, on the upper levels of Concourses A, B and C. Dubai Airports lists 530 rooms. Emirates describes it as for transit passengers, and a guest who goes through passport control cannot return. Hold luggage is only accessible after Customs and Immigration, so keep what you need in hand baggage. Tariffs and booking sit with the hotel.

Sleepover lounges offer sleep pods and cabins from 1 hour to a full night. Dubai Airports lists them at Terminal 1 D Gates and Terminal 3 Concourses A, B and C.
Terminal 1 D Gates are a short train ride from the main building. Terminal 3 B and C Gates are on foot, and A Gates by airport train. Note that Terminal 2 has no airside hotel on the Dubai Airports pages we read. For the visa question, read our Dubai layover guide.
Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City
Al Garhoud sits just north of the terminals, on the Dubai Creek side, and it is the closest residential area: 3.6 km and 6 minutes from Terminal 3, 7.8 km and 11 minutes from Terminal 1. Dubai Festival City is a waterfront community with a mall, 5.4 km and 8 minutes from Terminal 3.
Both suit an early flight. You keep the drive short and you are not in the Sheikh Zayed Road traffic. One of Salik’s ten gates is named Al Garhoud, so check the Salik guide if your route crosses it.
Deira, Port Saeed and Al Qusais
Port Saeed is 4.2 km from Terminal 3 and 6.5 km from Terminal 1, about 6 to 8 minutes. Deira, around the Gold Souk, is 8 to 11 km, 11 to 14 minutes. Al Qusais is the opposite: 2.7 km and 4 minutes from Terminal 1, but 8.1 km and 10 minutes from Terminal 3.
These districts have lower hotel rates than the beach areas, and they offer restaurants and the souks. They are not the area for a beach, so see where to stay in Dubai if the sea matters.
How long is the drive to Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3?
Times assume free-flowing roads and come from a routing service, checked on 17 October 2026. Add 15 to 25 minutes in the weekday peaks, which our rush hour guide lists.

| From | To Terminal 3 | To Terminal 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Al Garhoud | 3.6 km, 6 min | 7.8 km, 11 min |
| Port Saeed | 4.2 km, 6 min | 6.5 km, 8 min |
| Dubai Festival City | 5.4 km, 8 min | 9.6 km, 12 min |
| Al Qusais | 8.1 km, 10 min | 2.7 km, 4 min |
| Deira (Gold Souk) | 8.3 km, 11 min | 11.0 km, 14 min |
We did not time Terminal 2, the flydubai terminal, a separate building north of Terminal 1. Ask your hotel or us for the figure on your date. Our Terminal 2 arrivals page covers the building.
Hotels near DWC for Al Maktoum flights
Al Maktoum International (DWC) is in Dubai South, far from the Al Garhoud cluster: 56 km and about an hour from Al Garhoud, 63 km from Terminal 1. Dubai Airports says DWC opened to passengers in 2013, and flydubai began there in October 2015.
If you fly from Al Maktoum, do not book an Al Garhoud hotel. The Marina is 34 km away, and Palm Jumeirah 40 km. See the Al Maktoum airport guide for the terminal.
Getting to the terminal for a 4am check-in
Dubai Airports advises arriving 3 hours before departure. For a 6am flight, that is a 3am arrival.

The Metro does not help. RTA lists the first train at 05:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:00 on Sunday. Ask your hotel whether its shuttle runs at that hour. If it does not, a metered taxi is possible, and our Dubai taxi fares guide explains how the fare is built. A pre-booked car is the third choice: your driver waits at the hotel at the agreed time. Between 1 am and 6 am Salik gates are free.
Read airport departure timing for check-in cut-offs. For the other end of the night, see late-night arrivals. Business travellers should read ground transport for a business trip. Book airport transfers or a chauffeur on WhatsApp, 24/7. The wider picture is in the Dubai travel guide.
