VIP desert safari in Dubai

Assure's VIP desert safari pairs a VIP camp evening in the dunes near Lahbab with a chauffeur-driven luxury car. A Cadillac Escalade or GMC Yukon takes you from your Dubai hotel to camp and back. The camp's 4x4 handles the sunset dune drive. Your WhatsApp quote itemises what the camp includes, from seating to dinner.

What VIP means on a Dubai desert safari

In Dubai listings the word VIP covers a wide range. At one end it is a reserved seat near the stage at a shared camp. At the other it is a separate area with its own seating and dinner brought to the table. Before you pay for any VIP safari, ask what the camp actually provides.

With Assure, the answer is in writing. Your quote names the camp, lists its VIP package line by line and states the car that drives you.

The car on the road

The road part of the evening is where Assure comes in. A chauffeur collects you in a luxury car, waits at the desert edge while you are at camp, and drives you home afterwards.

Car to the camp Passengers Assure fleet or partner
Cadillac Escalade 6 Assure fleet
GMC Yukon 6 Assure fleet
Mercedes-Benz S-Class 3 Assure fleet
Rolls-Royce Cullinan 3 Partner network, subject to availability
Mercedes-Benz G-Class 3 Partner network, subject to availability
Range Rover or Lexus LX 3 Partner network, subject to availability

The 6-seat SUVs are on the luxury SUVs with chauffeur page. The Cullinan and the other partner cars sit with the ultra-luxury and exotic fleet.

Where the road car stops and the 4x4 takes over

No road car goes onto the dunes, however expensive. Your chauffeur drives to the camp’s meeting point on the tarmac near Lahbab, about 48 km from Downtown Dubai. There, the camp’s desert driver takes your group on in a 4x4 for the dune drive and the track into camp.

At the end of the evening the 4x4 brings you back to the same spot. The chauffeur has kept the car there, cooled and with any bags or shopping still in the boot.

The evening, set by the sunset

Camps plan the dune drive around sunset, so the pickup moves through the year. As a guide, the car leaves Downtown Dubai about 2 hours before the sun goes down.

Month (mid-month) Sunset at Lahbab Leave Downtown Dubai around
October 17:51 15:50
December 17:30 15:30
January 17:48 15:45
March 18:26 16:25
June 19:08 17:10

Sunset times are computed from the NOAA solar equations for Lahbab. From Dubai Marina, allow about 15 minutes more: it is 63 km by road. From Abu Dhabi it is about 163 km and close to 2 hours, so the pickup moves to after lunch.

Health, age and dress at the camp

The dune drive is the only part of the evening with physical limits, because the 4x4 rolls and drops over the dune crests. Tell us before you book if anyone is pregnant, has back, neck or heart problems, or is a baby. The camp operator decides who joins the dune drive, and we confirm the answer in writing.

Winter evenings in the desert turn cool after sunset, so bring a light jacket or shawl from November to February. Flat shoes beat heels on sand.

VIP, private or overnight

Three desert evenings sound alike and are not:

Our guide to private and shared desert safaris goes deeper on what changes inside the car and at the camp.

What sets the price

  • The car: an Escalade or Yukon from our fleet, or a Rolls-Royce or G-Class available through our partner network, subject to availability
  • The camp and its VIP package
  • How many people, and whether you need one car or two
  • The date: December evenings and New Year’s Eve are the busiest
  • Your pickup emirate, and how long the chauffeur waits

You get one figure for the evening on WhatsApp, with the car and the camp shown as separate lines.

From the airport or a hotel by the hour

Landing in the afternoon? Your chauffeur can meet you in arrivals with your name on a board and drive straight out to the dunes, with the luggage in the boot all evening. The DXB arrivals pickup page explains where the driver waits at each terminal. To keep the same car for the next day’s plans, book it as a car with driver.

Private vs shared desert safari sets out the private option, and our desert safari locations guide covers where the camps are.

Add an airport transfer

Landing the same day? The same booking can include your pickup from any UAE airport, with your name on a board in arrivals.

Questions and answers

What is included in a VIP desert safari?

With Assure, it has three parts. A chauffeur-driven luxury car takes you from your door to the camp and back. The camp's 4x4 does a sunset dune drive, and the camp's VIP package covers the evening. Camps define VIP differently, from reserved seating at the front to a separate area with dinner served at the table. Your quote names the camp and lists exactly what its VIP package covers.

Will the Rolls-Royce or Escalade drive on the dunes?

No. Road cars stay on the tarmac. Your chauffeur drives you to the camp's meeting point at the edge of the desert. There a desert driver takes over in the camp's own 4x4 for the dunes and the run into camp. The luxury car waits there through the evening and is ready when the 4x4 brings you back after dinner.

What time does a VIP desert safari start?

The pickup follows the sunset, not a fixed clock. As a guide, the car leaves Downtown Dubai about 2 hours before sunset, which means around 15:30 in mid-December and around 17:10 in mid-June. From Dubai Marina, add about 15 minutes. Your quote sets the exact pickup time against the camp's schedule for your date.

How many people fit in the car?

A Cadillac Escalade or GMC Yukon from the Assure fleet takes up to 6 passengers. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class takes 3. Through our partner network, subject to availability, there are 3-passenger cars such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Range Rover. Bigger groups can split across two cars or travel together in a 13-seat Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

Is a VIP desert safari suitable for children or pregnant guests?

The chauffeur part suits anyone, and the camp evening suits most families. The dune drive is the part with limits, because the 4x4 rocks hard over the crests. If anyone is pregnant, has back, neck or heart problems, or is a baby, tell us before you book. The camp operator decides who joins the dune drive, and we confirm it in writing.

What is the difference between a VIP and a private desert safari?

A private desert safari puts your group in its own 4x4 for the whole evening, at a standard camp. The VIP safari puts the money into the evening itself: a luxury chauffeur car for the road, the camp's 4x4 for the sand, and a VIP package at the camp. Choose private for privacy in the car, VIP for comfort at the camp.

Can we book a Hummer for the dune drive?

Searches for a Hummer desert safari usually mean a dune drive in a Hummer rather than the camp's usual 4x4. Hummers are not in the Assure fleet, and not every camp operator has one. Put it in your request with the date, and we tell you whether the operator can supply one before you confirm anything.
