Overnight desert safari and camping
An overnight desert safari from Dubai swaps the late drive home for a night at a licensed desert camp. Assure collects your group in a private car in the afternoon, books the camp, and drives you back after breakfast. In mid-December the desert sun sets at about 5:30 pm and rises at about 6:55 am.

The day, stop by stop
Times are a guide. Your driver keeps to your group's pace.
Mid-afternoon
Pickup in Dubai
Your driver collects the group and the overnight bags. Downtown Dubai to the Lahbab desert is 48 km, about 45 minutes without traffic.
Dune drive
If your camp package has one, it runs before sunset in the camp operator's 4x4. Road cars stay on the tarmac.
About 5:30 pm
Sunset in the dunes
Mid-December sunset near Lahbab. By mid-February it is about 6:10 pm, so every time on this list moves later.
Evening
Dinner at the camp
Dinner and the evening programme follow the camp package written into your quote.
Night
Night in the camp
You sleep in the tent or room type your quote confirms.
About 6:55 am
Sunrise
Mid-December sunrise. Desert air is cold before dawn in winter, so keep a warm layer by the bed.
After breakfast
Drive back to Dubai
Your driver returns at the agreed time. Expect about 45 minutes to Downtown Dubai and 55 minutes to Dubai Marina without traffic.
What the trip includes
Included
- Private car and driver from your Dubai hotel or home to the camp
- A booked overnight place at a licensed desert camp, named in your quote
- Collection from the camp the next morning and the drive back to your door
Not included
- Quad bike and dune buggy sessions, sold by the camp
- Any meal, tent upgrade or activity that your quote does not list
What to bring
- A warm layer for the night and the early morning
- Shoes you can shake the sand out of, such as sandals
- A small overnight bag with toiletries and any medication
- A torch or phone light for the walk between tent and bathroom
- A power bank, since charging points at camps vary
How a night in the desert runs
The overnight trip follows the evening desert safari until dinner, then keeps going. Instead of leaving the camp at about 9 pm, you stay, sleep in the desert and see the sun come up over the dunes. Your driver comes back for you after breakfast.
Assure looks after the road. A private car collects your group from your hotel or home in Dubai, drives out to the camp’s meeting point and returns the next morning at the agreed time. The camp, its tents, the dune drive and the meals are run by a licensed desert operator from our partner network, subject to availability. Your quote names that camp before you confirm.

Can you stay overnight in the desert in Dubai?
Yes, at a desert camp that sells overnight stays. Platinum Heritage, one Dubai safari operator, lists an optional overnight add-on on both its luxury and heritage collections, with the night spent in a “Stone Dwelling Room”. Not every camp near Dubai keeps guests overnight, which is why the camp is named in writing.
Abu Dhabi emirate has overnight trips too: Visit Abu Dhabi lists desert packages that run overnight, with sunrise and stargazing. If you are staying in the capital, the Abu Dhabi desert safari covers the dunes off the Al Ain road.
Sunset and sunrise through the camping season
The evening is planned back from the sunset, and the morning collection forward from the sunrise. These are the times at the Lahbab desert, in UAE time.
| Date | Sunset | Sunrise next morning |
|---|---|---|
| 15 November | 5:31 pm | 6:32 am |
| 15 December | 5:31 pm | 6:53 am |
| 15 January | 5:50 pm | 7:03 am |
| 15 February | 6:12 pm | 6:50 am |
December has the longest night in the desert: about 13 hours 20 minutes from sunset to sunrise. Times come from sunrise-sunset.org for the Lahbab coordinates.

Questions to settle about the camp before you book
Camps differ more on the overnight part than on the evening. These are the five things worth having in writing, and your quote answers each one.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Tent or room type | A private tent or room for your group, or space shared with other overnight guests |
| Bathrooms | Your own bathroom, or a shared block across the camp at night |
| Bedding and warmth | Winter nights in the desert are cold; ask what bedding the camp provides |
| Breakfast | Whether it is part of the package, and what time it is served |
| Morning collection | The time your driver returns, set around a hotel checkout or a flight |
If a dune drive matters to you, ask about that too. Some overnight packages include one before sunset; others start at the camp.

Your car is private, the camp may not be
With Assure the road legs are always private: one car for your group, collected at your door and driven straight out. A GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade from the Assure fleet takes up to 6 passengers.
The camp itself may host other guests at dinner and overnight. Two other pages cover different set-ups:
- For your own 4x4 and driver on the dunes all evening, see the private desert safari.
- For a VIP camp package with a luxury chauffeur car both ways, see the VIP desert safari.

Age, health and children
- Dune drive: Arabian Adventures does not take expectant mothers or guests with pre-existing medical conditions on its dune drive, though they can join the rest of the evening. Each operator sets its own rules, and your quote states the rules of your camp.
- Child seats: give every child’s age with the enquiry. Under UAE rules anyone under 4 rides in a child seat, and the front seat is off limits up to age 10 or below 145 cm, so the car comes fitted for your family.
- Young children overnight: ask for a private bathroom and a tent or room close to it, and pack a torch for the night.
- Clothing: nothing formal. The guide to what to wear on a desert safari covers each season, including winter nights.
What sets the price of an overnight safari
Assure does not publish safari prices. Your quote on WhatsApp is built from these factors.
| Factor | Example |
|---|---|
| Group size and car | A couple in a sedan, or 6 guests in a GMC Yukon |
| Sleeping set-up | Space in a shared tent, or a private tent or room |
| Pickup area | Downtown Dubai is 48 km from Lahbab; Dubai Marina is about 63 km |
| Date | A December weekend or New Year’s Eve, against a weeknight in March |
| Extras | Quad bike or dune buggy time at the camp |
| Morning plan | Back to your hotel, or straight on to the airport |
Flying out the morning after
Dubai International is 47 km from the Lahbab desert, about 55 minutes without traffic, so a late-morning flight can follow the night at camp. If your suitcases wait at the hotel, the driver can stop for them on the way, and your quote builds that stop into the collection time. The DXB airport page explains where the car drops you at each terminal.
To keep the same car for the rest of the day, book a car with driver by the hour that starts with the camp collection.
How to book
- Message +971 56 684 8148 on WhatsApp, or use the trip form, with the night you want to stay, how many adults and children (with ages) and where in Dubai to collect you.
- Say what you need at the camp: tent or room, bathroom, any dietary needs.
- The quote names the camp, the sleeping set-up, the meals, the pickup and collection times, and the cancellation terms. Confirm by replying in the WhatsApp chat.
What to expect on an overnight desert safari walks through the night, and what to wear on a desert safari covers the dress advice.

Questions and answers
Can you stay overnight in the desert in Dubai?
Yes. Some licensed safari operators sell a night at their desert camp, usually as an add-on to the evening safari. Platinum Heritage, for example, lists an overnight add-on on both of its Dubai safari collections. Assure books a camp like this for your date, drives your group out in a private car in the afternoon and collects you after breakfast the next day.
What time do you get back to Dubai after an overnight safari?
That depends on when the camp serves breakfast and when you ask the driver to come. Sunrise in mid-December is about 6:55 am, and breakfast follows. From the Lahbab area the drive is about 45 minutes to Downtown Dubai and 55 minutes to Dubai Marina without traffic. Your quote sets the collection time, so you can plan around a hotel checkout.
What kind of tent or room do you sleep in?
It varies by camp. Some camps put guests in tents, and Platinum Heritage sells its overnight stay as a 'Stone Dwelling Room'. Before you confirm, the quote names the camp and states the sleeping set-up: a private tent or room for your group, or space shared with other guests. Tell us if you need separate beds or a room for a family with children.
Are there toilets and showers at the camp?
Facilities differ from camp to camp, so settle this before you pay. The choice is usually a shared bathroom block across the camp or a bathroom for your group alone. If you need your own, for small children or older guests, say so when you enquire. The quote then states the bathroom arrangement at the camp we book for you.
Is breakfast included in an overnight desert safari?
Breakfast belongs to the camp package, not to the car, so it depends on the camp. Most guests want it, because the drive back comes after sunrise. Your quote lists every meal the camp includes, from dinner on the first evening to breakfast the next morning, and says if anything is charged on the night instead.
Can children or pregnant guests do the overnight safari?
The night at the camp suits most families; the dune drive is the part with limits. Arabian Adventures, one Dubai operator, does not take expectant mothers or guests with pre-existing medical conditions on its dune drive, though they can join the rest. In the car, UAE rules require a child seat for children under 4. Give everyone's age when you book.
Can you go straight from the camp to the airport?
Yes, if your flight leaves late enough in the morning. Dubai International is 47 km from the Lahbab desert, about 55 minutes without traffic. Give us the flight time and tell us about any suitcases left at the hotel. The quote then sets the collection time, and the route via the hotel if needed, so you reach the terminal with time to check in.
