Is a Saudi Arabia trip available?

Saudi trips are on request and confirmed per trip. A Saudi date works only when the chauffeur holds a Saudi visa and the car has Saudi motor insurance, its registration card, the owner’s written permission and clearance to carry paying passengers on that route. If one is missing, we tell you on WhatsApp before anything is booked. The UAE land border checklist lists what to carry.

Riyadh, Dammam, Al Khobar and Hofuf are the realistic destinations by car. Jeddah, 2,001 km away, is on request only.

How the road runs to the Saudi border

The E11 carries you all the way to the border. It starts as Sheikh Zayed Road, passes Abu Dhabi and becomes Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road through Al Dhafra. Al Ghuwaifat, the UAE post, is 453 km from Downtown Dubai and 354 km from Abu Dhabi. See Ghuwaifat and Al Batha border crossing.

Al Batha sits across the line in Al-Udayd Governorate, in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Saudipedia, published by the Saudi Ministry of Media, lists it as the only crossing between the two countries. In March 2026 the German Embassy in the UAE reported it open around the clock.

Past the border, Route 95 heads north toward Salwa. Riyadh traffic turns west on Route 615 to Hofuf, then joins the Dammam to Riyadh expressway, Route 40. Dammam and Al Khobar traffic stays on Route 95 up the coast.

OSRM measured these free-flow figures on 17 October 2026. They exclude traffic, fuel and meal stops, and the time spent at Al Ghuwaifat and Al Batha. See the Dubai to Riyadh route and the Dubai to Dammam and Al Khobar route for city detail.

Driver hours: an overnight stop or a second driver

Riyadh means more than 10 hours at the wheel before the border queue. One chauffeur should not drive that in a single stretch. For Riyadh and anything further, your quote includes one of two plans:

  1. A second driver who shares the wheel, so the car keeps moving and you arrive the same day.
  2. An overnight stop on the way, for example in Hofuf, 734 km from Dubai, with the chauffeur’s hotel in the quote.

Dammam and Al Khobar, at about 800 km, are close to a full day of driving. We agree a second driver or a stop when we quote, based on your start time.

What each passenger needs for Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Tourist Visa Regulations, issued by the Ministry of Tourism, set the rules below. The German Embassy notice of March 2026 adds what it saw at the land border. Saudi visa for UAE residents covers residents.

  • Three ways to get the visa: on arrival at a Saudi port for listed nationalities, as an eVisa before travel, or through a Saudi embassy.
  • The documents: a passport valid for 6 months, medical insurance approved in Saudi Arabia, an address inside the Kingdom, and the visa fee.
  • GCC residents: a GCC residence visa valid for at least 3 months, in a profession on the list at visitsaudi.com. First-degree relatives travelling with you are covered.
  • Holders of US, UK or Schengen visas that have been used at least once can apply through the same route, even if their nationality is not on the list.
  • Under-18s must travel with a guardian or a safe companion.
  • At Al Batha: the eVisa form asks for a destination address, such as your hotel, and border officers check hotel bookings.

A multiple-entry tourist visa lasts 1 year and allows stays of up to 3 months in total. Visitors on a single-entry UAE visa cannot use it to come back after the trip, so check your entry allowance before the car leaves Dubai.

What the car needs at Al Batha

The German Embassy reported in March 2026 that buses from the UAE could drive through the border zone once the bus held Saudi insurance and its driver held a Saudi visa. The insurance can be bought during border processing. We plan an Assure car on the same basis, and add a check on paid-passenger permission on the Saudi side.

The same notice warned that the Saudi side has little infrastructure for arranging onward transport on the spot. A car booked through to your hotel avoids that gap at the border.

Onward to Qatar and Bahrain

Both countries are reached across Saudi Arabia, so every passenger needs Saudi entry as well as the destination visa.

If flights are cancelled and you need to reach a Gulf airport by road, our guide to travelling by road when flights are disrupted lists what to check first.

What sets the price of a Saudi trip

  • One way or return. After a Riyadh drop-off, the car still drives 1,055 km back empty.
  • Saudi motor insurance for the car, the chauffeur’s Saudi visa and any fees at the two border posts.
  • A second driver, or an overnight stop with the chauffeur’s hotel.
  • Waiting days in Saudi Arabia before a return leg.
  • Vehicle size: up to 3 passengers in a sedan, 6 in an SUV or V-Class, 13 or 19 in a Sprinter.

Message us on WhatsApp with the Saudi city, the date, the number of passengers, each passport’s nationality and whether anyone holds GCC residence, and the quote comes back there. The cross-border transfers page compares Oman, Qatar and Bahrain too.

At the border into Saudi Arabia

What to know before the crossing, each point checked against its source.

  • Al Batha, in Al-Udayd Governorate in the Eastern Province, is the only crossing linking Saudi Arabia with the UAE.

    saudipedia.com, checked 17 Oct 2026

  • The Al Batha crossing was reported open around the clock in March 2026. A visa is needed to enter; a visa on arrival is generally available at the land border, but an eVisa applied for in advance makes the crossing faster. The eVisa asks for a destination address such as a hotel, and border officers check hotel bookings.

  • Buses from the UAE may drive through the border zone into Saudi Arabia when the bus has Saudi insurance and the driver has a visa. The insurance can be bought during border processing.

  • A tourist visa is issued on arrival at Saudi ports for listed nationalities, as an eVisa, or through a Saudi mission. The applicant needs a passport valid for 6 months, medical insurance approved in Saudi Arabia and an address inside the Kingdom. A multiple-entry visa is valid for 1 year with stays of up to 3 months.

Questions and answers

Can I drive from Dubai to Saudi Arabia?

Yes. The E11 runs from Dubai past Abu Dhabi to Al Ghuwaifat, 453 km away, where you leave the UAE and enter Saudi Arabia at Al Batha. Most passports need a Saudi visa, and we arrange Saudi motor insurance for the car before it crosses. Assure quotes these trips on request and confirms each one, including the car's papers, before you book.

Which border do you use from the UAE to Saudi Arabia?

There is one road crossing: Al Ghuwaifat on the UAE side and Al Batha on the Saudi side, in the Eastern Province. It is about 4 hours from Dubai and 3 hours from Abu Dhabi without traffic. Trips to Qatar and Bahrain by road also pass through it, because both are reached across Saudi Arabia.

What visa do I need to enter Saudi Arabia by road?

A Saudi tourist visa, unless your nationality is exempt. Eligible passports can apply online for an eVisa or get a visa on arrival, which the German Embassy reported available at the land border in March 2026. Applying first is faster. You need a passport valid for 6 months, Saudi-approved medical insurance and a hotel or other address in the Kingdom.

Can UAE residents get a Saudi eVisa?

The Saudi Tourist Visa Regulations allow it for holders of a GCC residence visa valid for at least 3 months, in the professions published on visitsaudi.com. First-degree relatives travelling with them qualify too. Check your own profession on that list before you book the trip, because the list sets who can apply online.

How long does Dubai to Riyadh take by car?

About 10 hours 31 minutes of driving for 1,055 km, on OSRM free-flow figures, before any time at the border. That is too long for one chauffeur in a single stretch. Your quote includes either a second driver who shares the wheel or an overnight stop on the way, for example in Hofuf.

Can you drive us from Dubai to Jeddah?

Only on request. Jeddah is 2,001 km from Dubai by road, about 20 hours 50 minutes of driving through Riyadh before border time. A trip that long needs two drivers and at least one overnight stop. For most travellers, flying to Jeddah is the practical choice.

Can a UAE car enter Saudi Arabia?

Vehicles from the UAE do cross at Al Batha. In March 2026 the German Embassy reported that UAE buses could cross once they held Saudi insurance, bought during border processing, and the driver held a Saudi visa. For an Assure trip we confirm the car's cover, the chauffeur's visa and passenger-carriage permission before the booking is final.

Can we continue to Qatar or Bahrain in the same car?

Ask us per trip. Doha is 695 km from Dubai through Saudi Arabia and the Salwa road. Manama is 837 km, over the King Fahd Causeway. Each extra border brings its own visa checks for passengers and insurance for the car, so we confirm the full route before quoting.
