Central Dammam is about 801 km from Downtown Dubai by road. Without traffic that is 7 hours 53 minutes of driving, measured on OSRM (OpenStreetMap) on 17 October 2026. Time at the Ghuwaifat and Al Batha border is extra.

The road: E11 to Ghuwaifat, then Highway 95 up the coast
Your driver leaves Dubai on the E11 and follows it past Abu Dhabi, where it becomes the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road. It crosses the Al Dhafra region, past Ruwais and Sila, to the Ghuwaifat border. That is roughly the halfway point, and the natural place for a rest stop.
After Al Batha, Saudi Highway 95 heads north. About 140 km in, at the Salwa junction, the road to Qatar turns east (that leg is on the Dubai to Doha route). You keep north on the Al Khobar to Salwa coastal road for another 163 km and reach Dhahran and Al Khobar first, then Dammam.
Going inland through Al Hofuf is about 883 km in total, roughly 80 km longer. It only makes sense with a planned stop in Al Ahsa.
Which border posts the trip uses
This route has one crossing. You leave the UAE at Ghuwaifat, at the western end of the E11, and enter Saudi Arabia at Al Batha. Every passenger shows a passport at both posts, and entry at Al Batha depends on the Saudi visa each one holds. The Ghuwaifat and Al Batha border crossing guide covers it.
We could not find the opening hours on an official page we were able to check. Ask us to confirm the border status the day before you leave.
Visas for business visitors and UAE residents
Saudi visas are applied for online on the KSA Visa platform. It lists a tourism visa, for holidays, cruises and visits to family and friends, and a business visit visa for people travelling to Saudi Arabia on business. Eligibility is checked by nationality first.
The platform’s eligibility questions also ask about:
- valid residency in a GCC country, held for at least three months
- a used US, UK or Schengen visa
- permanent residency in the US, UK or EU
Passports should be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. The UAE to Saudi Arabia page covers the other Saudi cities and the border in more depth. Saudi visa for UAE residents explains the visa steps.
If you live in the UAE, check that your residence visa stays valid for the whole trip, because you come back in through Ghuwaifat. If you are visiting the UAE and plan to return by road, check that your UAE visa allows another entry.
What the car needs before a Dammam trip is confirmed
Before we confirm, four things are checked for the car:
- motor insurance that covers Saudi Arabia for your travel dates
- the UAE registration card (Mulkiya), carried in the car
- the owner’s no-objection letter for the car
- permission to carry paying passengers across the border
Until those are in place for your date, a Dammam booking stays on request.
Business trips to Dhahran, Dammam port and Al Khobar
The three cities sit close together on the Gulf coast. Coming up from the south, you reach Dhahran first, home to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Dammam’s seaport, King Abdulaziz Port, lies on the coast north-east of the city centre. Central Dammam and Al Khobar are 23 km apart, about 17 minutes without traffic.

That makes split drop-offs easy to plan: one passenger at a Dhahran office, the rest at an Al Khobar hotel. Companies sending staff on repeat trips can run them through a corporate account with monthly invoicing.
Going on to Bahrain over the King Fahd Causeway
Al Khobar is the Saudi end of the King Fahd Causeway. Central Al Khobar to Manama is about 52 km, 43 minutes without traffic, before the border checks on the causeway. The King Fahd Causeway Authority publishes the average transit time for each direction on its website. Crossing details are in King Fahd Causeway crossing.

If Bahrain is the end point, the Dubai to Manama transfer has that route, and the UAE to Bahrain page covers Bahrain entry.
Flying home from Dammam, or driving on to Riyadh
King Fahd International Airport (DMM) lies north-west of Dammam: 38 km from the city centre, about 30 minutes without traffic, and 57 km from Al Khobar. Driving one way and flying home from DMM saves paying for the car’s long empty return.
Dammam to Riyadh is a further 412 km, about 4 hours without traffic, and the KSA Visa platform also mentions a Riyadh to Dammam train. The Dubai to Riyadh route covers the direct drive. When UAE flights are cancelled, our guide to reaching Gulf airports by road compares the options.
Which car suits an 800 km day
Choose for the luggage as much as the seats. In the Assure fleet, the GMC Yukon and the Cadillac Escalade each take 6 passengers with 3 large suitcases. The Mercedes-Benz V-Class takes 6 with 4. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class seats 3 with 2 large cases. The full range is on our luxury SUVs page.
What sets the price
- One way or return: a one-way trip still covers the car’s 800 km drive back to Dubai.
- The car’s border costs and Saudi insurance cover.
- Driver hours: an overnight stop in the Eastern Province, or a second driver for a same-day run.
- Waiting time and extra drop-offs in Dhahran, Dammam or Al Khobar.
- Onward legs to Bahrain, DMM airport or Riyadh.
- The vehicle class.
Dubai to Dammam and Al Khobar runs on request, confirmed per trip. Send the date, the pickup and drop-off, and each passenger’s nationality and residency, and the quote comes back on WhatsApp. The cross-border transfers page lists the other Gulf routes we arrange.

Questions and answers
How far is Dammam from Dubai by road?
About 801 km from Downtown Dubai to central Dammam, measured on OSRM (OpenStreetMap) in October 2026. That is 7 hours 53 minutes of driving without traffic. Time at the Ghuwaifat and Al Batha border comes on top, and a drive this long needs rest stops, so plan it as a full day on the road.
How far are Dammam and Al Khobar from Dubai, and can one car drop at both?
Al Khobar is about 804 km from Downtown Dubai and Dammam about 801 km, because the two cities sit 23 km apart on the same stretch of Gulf coast. Dhahran, between them, is 787 km. One car can drop passengers in two or three of these cities on a single booking, with about 17 minutes of driving between central Dammam and Al Khobar.
Which border do you cross driving from Dubai to Dammam?
Only one. You leave the UAE at Ghuwaifat, at the western end of the E11 about 453 km from Downtown Dubai, and enter Saudi Arabia at Al Batha. From there the road stays inside Saudi Arabia all the way to Dammam. Waiting times at the border vary, so ask us to check its status the day before you travel.
What visa do I need to travel to Dammam by road?
Each passenger needs Saudi entry that suits the trip. The KSA Visa platform lists a tourism visa and a business visit visa and checks eligibility by nationality, with further questions that include GCC residency of at least three months. Passports should be valid for six months from arrival. Send every passenger's nationality and residency, and we check what applies before quoting.
Can the car continue from Al Khobar to Bahrain?
Yes, on request. Al Khobar is the Saudi end of the King Fahd Causeway, and central Al Khobar to Manama is about 52 km, roughly 43 minutes without traffic, before the border checks on the causeway. Every passenger then needs Bahrain entry too. The onward leg is quoted with the main trip and confirmed once the car's papers for Bahrain are checked.
Can I be collected in Abu Dhabi instead of Dubai?
Yes. Abu Dhabi lies on the way west, so starting there shortens the trip to about 698 km and 6 hours 55 minutes without traffic to central Dammam. Your driver can collect you from a home, hotel or office, or wait in an airport arrivals hall holding a board with your name and drive straight on to the border.
What sets the price of a Dubai to Dammam transfer?
The main factors are one way or return, since a one-way trip still pays for the empty drive back to Dubai; insurance and border costs for the car; an overnight stop or a second driver; waiting time and extra drop-offs in Dhahran, Dammam or Al Khobar; and the vehicle class. There is no fixed fare for this route, so each trip is quoted on WhatsApp.
