How far is Downtown Dubai from DXB, and how long does it take?
Downtown Dubai is 15 to 21 km from the airport, depending on your terminal. Terminal 1 is closer to the city on the road network. Terminal 3 is further east, so the same trip runs longer.
| From | Road distance | Without traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal 1 car park to Downtown Dubai | about 15 km | 17 min |
| Terminal 1 car park to Business Bay | about 16 km | 18 min |
| Terminal 3 car park to Downtown Dubai | about 21 km | 32 min |
| Terminal 3 car park to Business Bay | about 23 km | 34 min |
| Terminal 3 car park to Dubai World Trade Centre | about 19 km | 32 min |
These figures come from the OSRM route planner on OpenStreetMap data, averaged over both directions, with no traffic. Real trips differ. Weekday mornings and evenings are the slow hours. Our guides to Terminal 3 arrivals and Terminal 1 arrivals have the full distance tables.

Which route does the car take?
From the Terminal 1 car park the usual run is onto Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road, then into the Downtown and Business Bay exits. Your chauffeur picks the road on the day from live traffic, not from a fixed rule.
You do not choose between them. What you can do is give the address, and say whether you need the Dubai Mall side, the Burj Khalifa side or Business Bay. Those entrances are different roads.
Metro, taxi or private car: how do they compare?
| Metro | Taxi | Private car | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it starts | Terminal 1 or 3 station | Rank at each terminal, 24/7 | Arrivals hall, then the car park |
| Luggage | 2 pieces per rider, hand luggage included | By boot size | Sized to your bags |
| Cost | Nol fare, set by RTA | About AED 75 to AED 80 meter estimate, before tolls | Quote before you fly |
| Last stretch | Walk or taxi from the station | Door to door | Door to door |
| Fixed price | Yes | No, meter | Yes, quoted |
The Red Line runs from Terminals 1 and 3 to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station. Dubai Airports lists hours as 5 am to midnight Monday to Thursday and Saturday, 5 am to 1 am on Friday, and 8 am to midnight on Sunday. It does not publish a journey time, so check the RTA planner. With two large cases, the station is only half the trip. The walk to a hotel can be long.
A taxi is simple if you land alone with one bag. The estimate comes from the Dubai Taxi airport tariff: AED 20 to start, AED 2.62 per kilometre, and 50 fils per minute of waiting. Our airport taxi fares guide shows the working. It is an estimate, not a quote.

Hotel drop-offs: the Burj Khalifa area, Business Bay and DIFC
A chauffeur who knows your hotel’s entrance saves you a loop around the block. Give us the hotel name and tower, not just “Downtown”.
- Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall: say which side you need, because the hotels around them have separate entrances.
- Business Bay: name the tower, so we know which side your lobby faces.
- DIFC: give the building name and we confirm the drop-off point with you.
If you stay in a different district, DXB to Dubai Marina and DXB to Palm Jumeirah cover the longer drives. Not sure where to base yourself? Read where to stay in Dubai.
Rush hour and event nights in Downtown
Weekday mornings and evenings are the slowest. The Salik toll follows the same pattern: AED 6 from 6 to 10 am and 4 to 8 pm on weekdays, AED 4 off-peak, and free from 1 am to 6 am. Our Salik guide lists the gates.
Big event nights close roads around Downtown. New Year’s Eve is the extreme case: Emaar’s event guide says no vehicles enter Downtown once closures start. Read our road closures guide and send us your pickup time. We suggest a drop-off point outside the closure.
For a wedding or a gala in the district, see the Downtown wedding venues arrival guide.

How an Assure pickup works for Downtown
Send your flight number, terminal, passenger count and bags on WhatsApp. Your chauffeur tracks the flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a board showing your name. Dubai Airports has no pick-up area at arrivals, so you walk together to the car park.
Our DXB airport transfer page covers all three terminals. The chauffeur service keeps the same driver for your meetings in the city, and the limousine service puts an S-Class or a 7 Series at the car park for senior guests.
