Wedding day transport timeline for Dubai: a sample schedule with drive times

Work back from the ceremony. Take the drive time from the free-flow table, add 30 to 45 minutes for traffic, the hotel drop-off queue and photos, then book the car from the first pickup to the last drop-off with an hour to spare. Downtown to the Marina is about 22 minutes without traffic.

How early should the wedding car arrive?

The car arrives before anyone needs it. Ask for the driver to be at the hotel forecourt 30 to 45 minutes before the bride or groom leaves the suite. That covers parking, a last check of the decoration and a calm start.

Then work backwards from the ceremony start:

  1. Take the drive time from the table below.
  2. Add 30 to 45 minutes for traffic, the hotel drop-off queue and a photo stop.
  3. Subtract that total from the ceremony time. That is the time the couple leaves.
  4. Subtract another 30 to 45 minutes. That is the time the car should be at the door.

A sample timeline: hotel suite to ceremony to reception

This is an example for a 7:00 pm ceremony at a Palm Jumeirah hotel on a Friday in December. The couple dress at a Downtown hotel. Swap the times to fit your day.

Time What happens Car
2:30 pm Hair, make-up and dressing in the suite Car booked from here, not yet needed
4:15 pm Car arrives at the Downtown forecourt Driver checks plates and decoration
4:45 pm Groom’s party leaves for the Palm Second car, 27 minutes without traffic
5:15 pm Photos at the hotel, before sunset at 17:31 Cars stay at the forecourt
5:45 pm Bride leaves Downtown About 27 minutes plus buffer
6:30 pm Bride arrives, waits out of sight Car drops at the venue entrance
7:00 pm Ceremony Car parks, driver stays on call
9:30 pm Reception ends Car back at the entrance
11:00 pm Last drop-off Booked with the hour to spare

Sunset at 17:31 is the December figure in the sunset table below. Your car company needs the schedule in writing, ideally using our wedding car booking checklist.

What are the drive times between common venues?

All times assume free-flowing roads and come from a routing service, checked on 17 October 2026. They are not measured at 6 pm. TomTom’s 2025 index for Dubai puts 10 km at about 26 minutes in the evening rush and 19 in the morning. Treat the evening as slower than this table, and slower again on a hotel’s entrance road.

From To Distance Without traffic
DXB Terminal 3 Downtown Dubai about 17.5 km 19 min
DXB Terminal 3 Dubai Marina about 37 km 34 min
Downtown Dubai Dubai Marina about 23 km 22 min
Downtown Dubai Umm Suqeim (Burj Al Arab area) about 16 km 17 min
Downtown Dubai Atlantis The Palm about 26 km 27 min
Dubai Marina Atlantis The Palm about 10 km 15 min

For the Palm in detail, read the Palm Jumeirah wedding venues arrival guide. Airport drive times from DXB are in DXB to Palm Jumeirah.

What time is sunset for golden-hour photos?

Golden hour starts roughly 45 minutes before sunset. These sunset times are for Dubai on the 15th of each month, computed from the NOAA solar formulae.

May 18:56 November 17:32
June 19:10 December 17:31

In winter, a 6 pm ceremony starts after the light has gone, so the photos come first. In summer, sunset is after 7 pm, but the heat at that hour is still well above 30°C. See best time to get married in Dubai.

Prayer times, road closures and big event nights

We could not source prayer-time road effects, so ask your venue. As a rule, avoid a pickup at a busy mosque during the Friday midday prayer, when the surrounding streets fill with parked cars.

On big nights, roads close near the venue. New Year’s Eve around Downtown is the best known. We could not source the current closure plan. Check Dubai Police and RTA announcements close to the date, and read our guide to event road closures. Our Dubai events calendar lists dates that fill the roads.

Where do Salik gates fall on common wedding routes?

Salik has 10 gates. From Monday to Saturday the toll is AED 6 from 6 to 10 am and 4 to 8 pm, and AED 4 at other hours until 1 am. Sundays are AED 4. Nothing is charged from 1 am to 6 am. A Downtown to Marina run on Sheikh Zayed Road passes gates such as Al Safa and Al Barsha. A run from DXB passes Al Maktoum.

Each gate is charged separately, and a wedding day with three cars and five legs adds up. Ask your quote whether Salik is included. The full rates are in our Salik guide, and peak windows are in Dubai rush hour.

When the night ends: late exits and the last car

Hold one car for the exit. Receptions overrun, and guests leave in waves. After 1 am Salik is free and the roads are quiet, so the last drop-off is quicker than the arrival.

Tell the driver the latest exit time. A car released early is the common reason a couple stands at a hotel entrance at midnight. For guests who need rides, see the wedding guest shuttle guide.

Start at the wedding transport hub. When you are ready, ask about wedding car hire, a limousine service or a car with driver for the whole day.

Questions and answers

How early should the wedding car arrive?

The car should arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the bride or groom needs to leave, so the driver can park at the forecourt, check the decoration and be ready at the door. Add the drive time and 30 to 45 minutes of buffer for traffic and the venue drop-off queue on top of that.

How long before the ceremony should the bride leave?

Leave the suite at drive time plus 30 to 45 minutes before the ceremony. Downtown to Dubai Marina is about 22 minutes without traffic, so leave about 1 hour 15 minutes ahead at the longest. On a Palm crescent run from Downtown, which is about 27 minutes, allow a similar margin.

How bad is Dubai traffic on a wedding day?

Evenings are the heavy window. TomTom's 2025 data names 5 pm the worst hour, and 10 km in the evening rush takes about 26 minutes against 19 in the morning. A 6 pm ceremony means the car travels in the peak, so build the buffer in, not out.

Is there Salik on wedding routes?

Yes, on Sheikh Zayed Road. Gates such as Al Safa and Al Barsha sit between Downtown and the Marina. Salik is AED 6 from 6 to 10 am and 4 to 8 pm Monday to Saturday, and AED 4 on Sundays. Ask your quote to state whether Salik is included.

What time is sunset for wedding photos in Dubai?

Sunset is about 17:31 in December, 18:41 in April and 19:12 in July (computed for 15th of the month). Golden-hour photos start roughly 45 minutes before. In summer you can photograph at 18:30 and still hold a 20:00 reception, in winter the light is gone by 17:30.

How long should I book the wedding car for?

Book from the first pickup to the last drop-off, plus an hour. A typical day is the bride's pickup, the ceremony, photos, the reception and the exit, which runs 6 to 9 hours. Say so when you ask for a quote so the driver is not released early.

What if the reception ends late?

Tell the driver the latest exit time and keep one car free for it. Salik is free from 1 am to 6 am, and roads are quiet then, so the drive home is faster than the arrival. Late exits are the reason to book the hour to spare.
