A business day in Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai: RAKEZ, RAK ICC and Al Marjan Island

Ras Al Khaimah is about 90 to 110 km and 70 to 80 minutes from DIFC without traffic, on the E311 and E611. A business day can cover RAKEZ in Al Hamra, Al Marjan Island and RAK city in one trip. Assure runs the day with one chauffeur and one car.

How long does a business day in Ras Al Khaimah take from Dubai?

Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) is about 90 to 110 km from DIFC and 68 to 82 minutes by car without traffic, so a business day there needs about 2 hours 30 minutes of driving. That suits investment firms who visit RAKEZ, a bank or a resort venue and return to Dubai the same evening.

The figures below come from OSRM routing, with DIFC’s Gate Village as the Dubai start.

Leg Distance Time without traffic
DIFC to Al Hamra (industrial zone) about 91 km about 68 minutes
DIFC to Al Marjan Island about 89 km about 75 minutes
DIFC to Al Nakheel, RAK city about 112 km about 82 minutes
Al Hamra to Al Marjan Island about 10 km about 11 minutes
Al Marjan Island to Al Nakheel about 39 km about 40 minutes
Al Marjan Island to DXB about 86 km about 76 minutes

Our Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah guide covers the same corridor for visitors who are not on business.

Which road does the drive take?

The route leaves Dubai on the E11 and then joins the E311, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, for about 55 km, before the E611 takes you into Ras Al Khaimah. The coastal E11 is an alternative through Ajman and Umm Al Quwain but is slower.

Dubai’s Salik gates apply on the Dubai side, at AED 4 off-peak and AED 6 in weekday peaks per pass, plus 5% VAT. Ask whether your quote includes tolls.

Start early. Dubai’s peaks run from 6:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, and a 06:45 departure from DIFC puts you in Al Hamra for a 09:00 start. Our rush hour guide gives the planning allowances.

Where is RAKEZ, and which address do you need?

RAKEZ is the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone, and it is not one address. Its website lists six zones: Al Ghail Industrial, Al Hamra Industrial, the RAKEZ Academic Zone, Al Hulaila Industrial, Al Nakheel Business and Al Hamra Business.

RAKEZ’s contact page gives the head office as Al Nakheel, in Ras Al Khaimah city. It lists the RAKEZ Explorer Business Hub service centre in Al Hamra, and the Compass Coworking Centre on Al Shohada Road in the Al Hamra area. It also names a Dubai representative office, GoBusiness, in Boulevard Plaza Tower 2. Ask RAKEZ whether your matter can be handled there.

The site gives callback hours of 8:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. Plan RAKEZ appointments inside that window, and send your chauffeur the zone name and building, not just “RAKEZ”. Our free-zone visits guide explains gate entry for other zones.

What is RAK ICC, and where do meetings happen?

RAK ICC is the RAK International Corporate Centre, a Government of Ras Al Khaimah body that handles company registration for international business companies.

The RAK ICC website publishes its office details on its contact page. Check which office your appointment is at before you book the car. Send your chauffeur the exact floor and building, plus the name of the person you are meeting.

What can you do on Al Marjan Island?

Al Marjan Island is four man-made islands, Breeze, Treasure, Dream and View, stretching about 4.5 km into the Arabian Gulf, according to Visit Ras Al Khaimah. It is mainly a resort district, so business happens in hotel meeting rooms, at lunch or on a site visit with a developer.

From Al Hamra it is about 10 km and 11 minutes, which makes it an easy second stop. Agree the hotel entrance with the host. Your chauffeur needs the right door and a phone number for the venue.

What does a sample schedule look like?

This day suits two meetings in RAK with a working lunch. It runs on a weekday.

  1. 06:45 Depart DIFC or the hotel. The car heads north on the E11, then the E311.
  2. 08:10 Arrive at Al Hamra, about 68 minutes later with a margin of about 15 minutes.
  3. 09:00 Meeting one at a RAKEZ service centre or a company in the zone. It ends by 10:30.
  4. 10:45 Drive to Al Marjan Island, about 11 minutes.
  5. 11:00 Meeting two or site visit.
  6. 13:00 Working lunch on the island.
  7. 14:30 Depart for Dubai. The Dubai peak builds from 16:00.
  8. 16:00 Arrive at DIFC or the hotel, about 1 hour 15 minutes later in light traffic.

If a stop in RAK city is needed, add about 40 minutes each way from Al Marjan Island and shift lunch to the city. Thursday and Friday afternoons need an earlier return, as traffic builds toward Dubai.

Day trip or overnight stay?

A day trip works when the meetings finish by about 14:30. After that, the return drive meets the Dubai evening peak, which runs from 16:00 to 20:00 and peaks at 5 pm, according to TomTom’s 2025 index for Dubai. An overnight stay on Al Marjan Island removes the late drive and gives the team a calm start at 09:00 the next day.

Plan Driving per day Works best when
Same-day return about 2 h 30 min to 3 h Two meetings close together, finish by 14:30
Overnight on Al Marjan Island about 1 h 15 min each way Three or more meetings, or an evening dinner with the host
Fly out of Dubai the same night as same-day, plus airport Leave RAK at least 3 h 30 min before an international departure from DXB

The 3 hours 30 minutes figure is the allowance in our own Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah guide, which counts the drive of about 1 hour 30 minutes to DXB plus check-in time. OSRM measures Al Marjan Island to DXB at about 86 km and 76 minutes without traffic.

What should you send your chauffeur the day before?

A RAK day has more addresses than a Dubai meeting, and the zone names do not match the road names. Send these items.

  1. The zone name and building for each RAKEZ appointment, and the host’s phone number.
  2. The hotel or venue name on Al Marjan Island, and the entrance for the drop-off.
  3. The RAK ICC office, floor and contact name, if you have a meeting there.
  4. The fixed start time of each meeting and the latest time you need to be back in Dubai.
  5. The headcount and bags, so the car matches the group.

A RAKEZ gate or a resort may ask for names in advance. Ask your host what the guard post needs, and send the answer to your chauffeur with the list above.

Where does the car wait in Ras Al Khaimah?

At Al Hamra, ask your host which gate or building entrance suits the car, and where it can wait. On Al Marjan Island, the resort entrance is the usual waiting point. In RAK city, ask your host about parking before the day, because Al Nakheel has no single drop-off for every office.

For a team arriving by air, Ras Al Khaimah International is about 24 km and 22 minutes from RAK city without traffic, and the RAK airport guide explains the terminal and name boards. Our airport transfer page for RKT lists the pickup.

Does the car come from Assure or a partner?

Your car comes from the Assure fleet or our partner network, confirmed when you book. Partner cars are available through our partner network, subject to availability. For a day that starts and ends in Dubai, the usual choice is one sedan or SUV and one chauffeur. The Ras Al Khaimah chauffeur page lists the local options.

Company accounts for repeat visits are explained on our corporate chauffeur page. If you land at Ras Al Khaimah International instead, see the RAK airport guide, and for a visit that adds Abu Dhabi, read the three-day investor roadshow.

Questions and answers

How long is the drive from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah?

From DIFC, about 68 to 82 minutes without traffic, depending on where in the emirate you stop. Al Hamra is about 91 km and 68 minutes. Al Nakheel in RAK city is about 112 km and 82 minutes. Add 30 to 60 minutes in the Dubai peak hours, as a planning allowance and not a measured figure.

Where is RAKEZ?

RAKEZ is a free zone with six zones: Al Ghail Industrial, Al Hamra Industrial, the Academic Zone, Al Hulaila Industrial, Al Nakheel Business and Al Hamra Business. Its head office is in Al Nakheel, and its visitor and customer service centres are in Al Hamra. Ask which address your appointment uses before you book the car.

Can you visit RAKEZ and Al Marjan Island in one day?

Yes. Al Hamra to Al Marjan Island is about 10 km and 11 minutes. A day with a 09:00 meeting in Al Hamra and a lunch on Al Marjan Island fits easily, with RAK city about 40 minutes beyond. The long legs are the two trips to and from Dubai, about 70 to 80 minutes each.

What does Al Marjan Island offer a business visitor?

It is a group of four man-made islands, Breeze, Treasure, Dream and View, stretching about 4.5 km into the Arabian Gulf, per Visit Ras Al Khaimah. It is a resort district, so meetings usually happen in hotel meeting rooms or at lunch. Check that your host's venue has parking and a drop-off point.

What is the best time to leave Dubai for a RAK meeting?

Leave around 06:45 to arrive for a 09:00 start. The Dubai peak runs about 6:00 to 10:00, so leaving earlier avoids most of it. The road from RAK back to Dubai builds from the afternoon, so aim to start back before 15:00 or after 19:30, and give yourself a longer cushion on Thursdays and Fridays.

Does the car come from Assure or a partner?

Your car comes from the Assure fleet or our partner network, confirmed when you book. Partner cars are available through our partner network, subject to availability.
