DIFC to ADGM in one day: planning a two-city meeting day by car

DIFC in Dubai to ADGM on Al Maryah Island is about 140 km and 89 minutes by car without traffic, almost all of it on the E11. A two-city meeting day works with a late-morning departure and a return after the evening peak. Assure runs this day with one car and one chauffeur.

How far is DIFC from ADGM by car?

DIFC to ADGM is about 140 km and 89 minutes by car without traffic, and the return is the same. That is the distance for a full-day chauffeur booking that crosses two emirates, and it decides how the whole day is built.

The figures below come from OSRM routing, measured from Gate Village in DIFC to Al Sila Tower on Al Maryah Island, where ADGM sits.

Leg Distance Time without traffic
DIFC to ADGM, Al Maryah Island about 140 km about 89 minutes
ADGM back to DIFC about 142 km about 89 minutes
ADGM to Zayed International (AUH) about 33 km about 28 minutes
DXB to DIFC about 19 km about 31 minutes

Two cities and two legs mean about 3 hours of driving. Treat that as the floor, and build the meetings around it.

Which road does the drive take, and what do the tolls cost?

The drive runs on the E11, which changes name along the way: Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, then Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street. The OSRM route then joins the E12, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, into Abu Dhabi city.

Two toll systems apply, and they are separate accounts.

  • Salik in Dubai. On a typical run from DIFC you pass the Al Safa, Al Barsha and Jebel Ali gates. Each pass costs AED 6 in weekday peaks (6:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 20:00) and AED 4 off-peak, plus 5% VAT from 1 June 2026. Gates are free from 1:00 to 6:00. Our Salik guide lists every gate.
  • Darb in Abu Dhabi. Each gate crossing costs AED 4 from 7:00 to 9:00 and 15:00 to 19:00, Monday to Saturday, and nothing on Sundays and public holidays. The Ghantoot gate and the Al Qurm gate charge AED 4 at every hour since 4 May 2026. The Darb guide has the gate list.

Count three Salik passes each way, so AED 12 to AED 18 before VAT, plus the Darb crossings on your route. The exact gates depend on the road your chauffeur picks on the day. Ask whether your quote includes tolls or lists them as extra.

When do the traffic peaks fall?

Dubai’s weekday peaks run from about 6:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, the same windows Salik uses for its AED 6 rate. TomTom’s 2025 index names 5 pm as Dubai’s worst hour. Abu Dhabi’s Darb peak windows are tighter: 7:00 to 9:00 and 15:00 to 19:00.

Departure from Leaves at Planning time to the other city
DIFC 06:00 to 07:00 about 1 h 30 min to 1 h 45 min
DIFC 11:00 to 14:00 about 1 h 30 min to 1 h 45 min
DIFC 16:00 to 19:00 about 2 h 15 min to 2 h 30 min
ADGM 15:00 to 19:00 about 2 h 15 min to 2 h 30 min
ADGM after 19:30 about 1 h 30 min to 1 h 45 min

The free-flow time is measured. The peak additions are our planning advice, built on the 45 to 60 minute allowance in our Dubai rush hour guide, not a measured result. Pad the arrival for any meeting that cannot start late.

What does a timed two-city day look like?

This is a sample day for a team with a late-morning meeting in DIFC and an early-afternoon meeting at ADGM. It runs on a weekday and avoids the evening peak.

  1. 08:30 Chauffeur collects the team from the hotel and drops at DIFC. Meeting one runs 09:30 to 11:00.
  2. 11:15 Depart DIFC. Salik is at the AED 4 off-peak rate from 10:00 and the road is at its quietest of the day.
  3. 12:45 Arrive on Al Maryah Island, with 15 minutes in hand for the drop-off and the lift.
  4. 13:00 Lunch at or near the venue. Stay on the island, so no extra leg eats into the gap.
  5. 14:00 Meeting two at ADGM, until 15:00.
  6. 15:00 Depart before the Abu Dhabi and Dubai evening build-up gets going. Salik at the other end switches to AED 6 at 16:00.
  7. 16:45 Back at DIFC or the hotel, a little over 1 hour 45 minutes later.

If meeting two runs past 15:30, the car crosses both peak windows. That is the case for an overnight stay, or a firm cut-off time agreed with the host. A day with a dinner in Dubai tends to leave Abu Dhabi at 19:30 or later.

Where should you stop for lunch?

Only stop if the schedule needs it. A lunch stop between the cities adds 30 to 45 minutes, and nothing on the E11 shortens a leg. The cleaner plan is lunch on Al Maryah Island near the second meeting, or a working lunch with the host.

If the team needs a break, build 15 minutes into the arrival time rather than adding a stop on the road. A short break before the meeting costs less time than a stop at the roadside.

Where does the car wait at each end?

At DIFC, the Dubai Metro Red Line serves two stations, Emirates Tower and Financial Centre. For the Gate Building, use Emirates Tower. Visitor parking in Gate District, Gate Village and Gate Avenue is barrier-free and ticketless since 1 January 2026, and DIFC links payment to Salik. Our guide to getting around DIFC covers drop-off points.

At ADGM, the office or venue decides the drop-off, because the zone covers Al Maryah Island and Al Reem Island. Ask your host for the tower name and a phone number. Send both to the chauffeur the day before, along with the meeting end time.

Which day of the week suits the trip best?

Mid-week days run closest to the figures above. Sunday changes the toll sums: Salik is AED 4 all day with the 1:00 to 6:00 free window, and Darb is free. Public holidays follow the Sunday pattern for Darb, and holiday eves can jam the roads out of Dubai. Check the UAE public holidays before you fix a date.

Plan buffer for events too. Exhibitions at the Dubai World Trade Centre, next to DIFC, load extra cars onto Sheikh Zayed Road on show days. If your day falls on one, move the first meeting earlier or the pick-up point back from the venue gate.

What should you send your chauffeur the day before?

A short message avoids most delays on a two-city day. Send these five items.

  1. The tower name, floor and host’s phone number in DIFC and at ADGM.
  2. The fixed start time of each meeting, and the latest end time of the second one.
  3. The headcount, and how many bags and laptops travel in the car.
  4. A named contact in your office who can change the plan.
  5. The hotel or office the team returns to in the evening.

How does a chauffeur day suit this itinerary?

One car stays with the team across both cities, so luggage, documents and laptops stay in one place. Your car comes from the Assure fleet or our partner network, confirmed when you book. Partner cars are available through our partner network, subject to availability.

Company bookings run under a contract with named drivers. The corporate chauffeur page explains accounts, and the finance sector page covers bank and fund visits. For lawyers, the law firm page covers the same Dubai to Abu Dhabi court day. A first-time visitor can also read the guide to Dubai to Abu Dhabi by road.

Questions and answers

How long does it take to drive from DIFC to ADGM?

About 89 minutes without traffic, for about 140 km, on the OSRM router with OpenStreetMap data. In the weekday peaks add 45 to 60 minutes, which is our planning allowance rather than a measured figure. Plan the journey as roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes depending on the hour you leave.

Can you do two meetings in two cities in one day?

Yes, if the schedule has one clear gap in the middle. Leave Dubai after the morning peak, meet in Abu Dhabi in the early afternoon, and start back before 15:00 or after 19:00. Meetings on both sides finish comfortably when the driving legs total about 3 hours and the meeting blocks are fixed in advance.

What tolls apply on the DIFC to ADGM drive?

Salik in Dubai and Darb in Abu Dhabi. Salik is AED 4 off-peak and AED 6 in weekday peaks per gate, plus 5% VAT. Darb is AED 4 per crossing from 7 to 9 am and 3 to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday, and the Ghantoot gate charges at all hours. Ask whether your quote includes tolls.

Where does the car wait at ADGM?

Agree the exact tower with your host before the day. ADGM sits on Al Maryah Island, and your host's office or the meeting venue decides the drop-off. Send the tower name and the host's phone number to your chauffeur, who waits nearby and moves to the entrance when you message.

Is it better to stay overnight in Abu Dhabi?

If the second meeting runs past 16:00, yes. The evening drive back to Dubai crosses both peak windows and can pass 2 hours 15 minutes. An overnight stay on Al Maryah Island removes the late drive, and a morning departure at 06:00 or 07:00 returns you to DIFC before the Dubai peak builds.

How many people fit in one car for this trip?

An S-Class or BMW 7 Series seats 3 passengers with 2 large bags. A Mercedes V-Class seats 6 with 4 bags, and a 13-seat Sprinter fits larger teams. Seat and bag counts come from our fleet data. Tell us your headcount and luggage when you ask for the quote.
